The 421 Fish is a versatile, high-performance quad fish based on Rusty's popular 419 Fish. The 421 has evolved to a crown deck, narrower nose and rounded dove tail for more top-to-bottom surfing and tighter arcs. Designed for wave ranges from waist-high to overhead at beach breaks, points, reefs or slabs. Ideal for beginners through expert surfers. The 421 Fish offers a predictable, skateboard-like feel and adds some fun, new performance line options when compared to a classic Fish. The 421 Fish can go wherever your eyes and ability can take you.
RUSTY'S NOTES
"Designed on April 19th, 2019. The 421 is a crown deck, narrower nose and tail, version of the 419. Designed as a Quad. I have a long history with Fish Designs starting with my first custom - a La Jolla Surfboards 8'10 Custom Twin Pin in 1967. World Contest, San Diego, 1972, Jim Blears 1st Place on a Fish. David Nuuhiwa, 2nd Place on a Fish. While working at G&S, 1972 through the spring of 1974, I became good friends with Skip Frye. Learned a lot from him. He was into Fish designs. I have countless versions of a Fish in my design files. We wanted to officially release a little racier Fish for the summer of 2023. The 419 has a light single that turns into a double vee in the back third. The 421 has a modest Rapid Entry. Approximately -.15 Rapid Entry concave that fades into a shallow hooked vee in the business zone."
APPROACH & STYLE
The 421 Fish is your new favorite high performance fish. This board will perform best in waves that are waist to overhead in size. Ideal for beginners through expert surfers looking for high performance fun.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Rapid entry front - A subtle single concave from the tip of the nose, starts to shallow out through the center of the board. It feeds water back through the midsection and into "the zone" between the feet, generating a great deal of speed and drive.
Shallow hooked vee - Bottom contour turns into a "hooked" vee as it approaches the rear foot, coming into the front fins. The deepest part of this double con is under the rear of the front fin. The deep concave in the front creates lift. A double concave creates a lateral break and helps to initiate turns. It helps to focus the water through the fins. By deepening the concave and focusing it close to the rail, deepest under the front fins, it gives extra hold and provides additional thrust and drive.
Slight vee off the tail - The bottom finishes with a slight vee off the last few inches of the board. That helps to finish turns, smooth and connected.
"Much more versatile. Tighter turning radius but still very very fast down the line!!!" - Rusty Team Feedback
