Ok, let's get into how the custom board builder works. This is where you can custom design your very own board. It's simple really, select an option from every category in the side menu, starting from the top working your way down the options. The custom board builder will display how the board will look in real time, step by step. Read the below steps as you go.
Once you have designed your new board and sent through the order, we will contact you shortly after to double check your request. It will take us 4 to 6 weeks to finish your board and have it shipped to your address or ready for pick-up at our store in Cascais.

BOARD DETAILS

Surfboard Model
We have an extensive range of boards and have a model for every surf. Choose the model as a base and this is what your board will be created from. This is what the rocker, rails, tail, nose, overall outline, bottom and deck contours will be designed off.

Technology/Construction
This is what your board will be constructed from. We explain this thoroughly on our technology page here. If you know what you’re after go right ahead. Options are:

PU Stringer
Polyurethane foam blank, timber stringer and Polyester resin. This is your most common stock surfboard. Most of our boards are built using this foam. It's great for everyday use and has performance in all types of conditions, wave sizes and skill levels.

EPS Stringer / Epoxy with Stringer
Polystyrene foam blank, timber stringer and Epoxy resin. Polystyrene is typically the lightest of all foams used in surfboard construction resulting in increased paddling speed and maneuverability in small waves. EPS foam is also known for its durability. Overall it makes a stronger, longer-lasting, better flexing board. We recommend this if you’re after strength with minimal weight. Great for small gutless waves.

EPS / Epoxy Stringerless
Stringerless polystyrene foam blank and Epoxy resin. We recommend that you order some type of stringer area reinforcement (extra fiber or carbon) if you are going for this option.

EPoly
Polyurethane foam blank, timber stringer and Epoxy resin. EPoly boards are livelier and maintain their flex patterns much longer than the traditional construction. EPoly boards can be up to 10% lighter than traditional boards; they are also stronger and don't ding or dent as easily, hence they are much more durable. Epoxy resin on a polyurethane blank results in a board that is whiter, brighter and doesn't yellow to the extent of a traditional board. Note: Rusty Surfboards exclusive.

EPS Twin Tech
A stringerless EPS core and Chilli's own designed Twin Carbon fibre tape. Bottom: Single layer of 4oz Innegra fibreglass (featuring Chilli's signature line by Colan Australia) plus Twin Carbon tape. Deck: 1 x layer of 4oz fiberglass, 1 x layer of 5oz biaxial cloth, Twin Carbon tape, fin plug oval patches plus a V-Tail patch. Twin Tech offers a performance orientated flex pattern that's designed to simulate a traditional stringer surfboard but with an EPS/Epoxy 'new board feeling' every surf. Most of the strength comes from the Twin Carbon strategically running up the centre of the deck and bottom. This creates a strong flex pattern that accentuates speed and produces that pop and liveliness but with an underlying feeling of predictability. Tried and tested with Chilli's team of all ages and sizes, this construction feels lightweight, balanced and perfect to ride. Note: Chilli Surfboards exclusive.

Tri-Flex Epoxy
A carbon fibre rod, acting as a stringer, is inlayed along a stringerless EPS foam deck providing incredible strength. Parabolic carbon rods are then inlayed around the EPS foam's bottom rails providing a unique combination of twist and flex. The boards are then glassed slightly heavier to compensate for the blank's incredible lightness. This process results in a board that feels like a PU board but surfs with an amazing amount of added performance. Note: JR Surfboards exclusive.

Full Carbon
This construction promotes a light-weight design that unites speed and agility with improved durability. Full Carbon surfboards are stringerless EPS blanks which are vacuum bagged completely wrapped in Carbon Fiber with 4oz fiberglass cloth under it on the deck. Bottom: Single layer of 3K Biaxial Carbon fiber with clear Epoxy resin; Deck: 1 x layer of 4oz fiberglass cloth, 1 x layer of 3K Biaxial Carbon fiber with clear Epoxy resin. The vacuum bagging technique utilizes the best environmental practices and creates a unique combination of flex, ultra lightweight and durability. These boards are light, lively and generate speed quickly, with lots of pop and spring. Full Carbon craftsmanship is next level and seems well suited to most of SharpEye's range and is especially great for adding some spice to your surfing in slower and weaker waves. Eco
100% recyclable Polyurethane foam blank, timber stringer and Polyester resin. These boards are made with Polyola Blanks, the first ever Polyurethane foam based on recycled material, 100 % recyclable again and made in Europe. These blanks have less impact on the planet, are healthier to work with and increase performance features. We take back the production waste from shaping and use it as a resource for future blanks/surfboards. 100% recyclable. 100% made in EU. Note: WANTED Shapes exclusive.

Recommended Stock Measurements - Custom Measures
Select the size, the width and the thickness of your board. Have a look at our Recommended Stock Measurements before jumping into a final decision. This is a guideline for you so you don't go customizing a board that will change the actual base design too much from its original model concept. We recommend selecting the length you want and this will auto-select the width and thickness as per our stock recommendations.

From here move down to the next option and adjust the width and thickness. We recommend not going more than 3/4 of an inch wider or narrower than stock dimensions, and not more than 1/8 to 3/8 of an inch thicker.

Please note, this is only a guideline by us. If you have questions please ask, if you aren't sure please ask. We are here to help you create the best custom board for you. You'll also notice the volume will disappear once the width or thickness is altered from the stock measure; we will see this and give you the correct volume after you submit your order.

Tail Type
This is where you can change the drive in your board. Each model was designed with a specific tail shape in mind. Changing this will change the way the surfboard performs. However, if you would like to experiment, feel free to choose a different tail option.

Fins
Quite simply, this is what fin system you want. Follow this and select your:

Fin System: FCS II or Futures
Fin Number: Twin (2 fin boxes), Thruster (3 fin boxes), Quad (4 fin boxes) or Quin (5 fin boxes)
Fin System Option: FCS II (new screwless system) and box colour or FUTURES box colour.

Fin Number info
Twin Fin: Quick and lively. The downside is that they are a little bit loose and tend to spin out a little if you're doing a big bottom-turn in bigger waves. The wrong twin fin setup paired with the wrong wave type on a twinny will tend to slide out from right under you. Designed to provide a loose, fast, lively feeling.
Thruster: Is the most common configuration. The rail fins help create speed, while the centre fin gives you drive and stability.
Quad: Quad fins are fast and loose. The quad set-up draws water through the middle of your board which creates speed. A lot of fun!
Quin: This option is for someone who can't decide whether they want a thruster or a quad. You can change from one to the other. This is also a great way to experiment with your board, because it will surf completely different in a quad to how it surfs in a thruster!


Glassing details
ULTRA LIGHT: This makes the board light and fast. However, this also means the board won't last like the other options. Performance over durability for this option.

TEAM LIGHT: An added layer of 4oz fiberglass cloth covering three quarters of the deck reinforces the board where you need it the most – where you’re likely to put pressure on your feet when accelerating, slowing down or performing a solid turn.

REGULAR / STANDARD: This is what we recommend when ordering your board. It is not too heavy and it is not too light, it is just right!

STRONG: This glass job definitely makes the board stronger but also the extra weight of the cloth adds weight to the board. Laminating a surfboard with 6oz fiberglass cloth on the deck wrapping the rails will decrease heel dents and dings. We recommend this option if you are surfing waves of consequence or you are heavy footed and tend to dint your boards or simply want durability in your boards. We also recommend this option with our mid-length, mini-malibu and Fish surfboard models, where the extra weight is actually welcome (performance wise).

EXTRA STRONG: Recommended for the ordering of our Step-Up models. Great for big surf and heavy waves. It's also typically used in longer surfboard models such as longboards and mid-lengths with a longboard feeling to it.

EPOXY REGULAR: Laminating a surfboard with Biaxial cloth provides a better flex response and more strength. This glassing job is strong, resisting natural stress and tension. It's light and poppy - lively. The recommended glassing job for your EPS core board providing the perfect balance between lightness, flex and strength.

EPOXY STRONG: For added strength to your EPS core board.

EPOXY STANDARD: Two layers of 6oz fiberglass cloth (x1 on top and x1 on the bottom) offer higher levels of impact resistance. This glassing job improves the core strength of the foam and the structural durability. It also means added stiffness which translates for more hold and drive. More control. Apex performance in smaller conditions, however, can withstand larger conditions. Long-lasting and durable.

E2 STRINGERLESS EPS: Biaxial cloth provides better flexibility than the previous option, which translates for a light and poppy feel. Speedy and quick response. Lively. Great torsional / rail-to-rail control. Long-lasting and durable.

FULL CARBON: Vacuum glassed carbon fiber is the lightest of all surfboard building fabrics. It's light, lively and generates speed quickly. Lots of pop and spring. For optimum flex, weight and durability.

Twin Tech Special: Twin Carbon fibre tape is added to the deck and bottom for reinforced strength and controlled flex.

Innegra Special: Combining the elements of Innegra S fibre (the white lines on your board) with Chilli's double twisted weave fibreglass we strategically glass 14 strands of Innegra running parallel up your board. These fibres provide a controlled strength and flex allowing the board to be stronger and perform better without becoming too stiff. Note: Chilli Surfboards exclusive.

NOTE: Here is some important info to ensure your order is correct. When choosing one of the EPS/Epoxy construction types, please ensure you select one of the EPS/Epoxy options on the GLASSING category.

Logo
We have pre-set decal positions for each model but, this is where you can customize your board and create something outside the model pre-sets. Choose one and then try them all watching the board builder create the perfect layout for your custom board.
NOTE: When choosing one of the EPS/Epoxy construction types, please ensure you select one of the EPS/Epoxy options on the Logo category.

Carbon Tail Patches
Carbon tail patches help to reinforce strength on your rail around the tail. We do this, because the tail area is the first place to give out on your surfboard. This is due to the fact that your toes and heals really dig in when surfing. Each surfboard brand offers specific tail patches that you can add to your board.

Spray
Our unique sprays are rolled on by a foam roller using a water-based paint. Be aware, nothings ever done the same but we do our best to keep uniform throughout. By having it this way everything is unique, everything has its own character and look. Start clicking on a spray and select your favorite. Very simple, whatever your write in here, the shaper will write on the foam down near the dimensions in pencil and it will be there to stay forever.
