The Tunel Crew model was inspired by the heavy, barreling waves of Itacoatiara and a tight crew of surfers always chasing performance inside the tubes - hence the name.
The goal was to build a board that delivers speed and control from the first paddle stroke to the tube exit.
Itacoatiara is internationally known for its heavy barrels. World known tube riders like Bruno Santos and Guilherme Herdy came from here. The board developed by Ricardo Martins in collaboration with the Tunel Crew focuses on speed, stability, and control - all the attributes you need in critical conditions.
The first step was creating an outline with more surface area and chest flotation, narrowing from the midsection to the tail. In other words, you get paddle power in a high-performance board designed to respond quickly, generate control, and maintain speed, crucial on the drop and inside the barrel.
Next came balancing the rocker and bottom shape. Ricardo started with a slightly deeper entry rocker, the go-to recipe for better grip and mobility in hollow waves. To complement that, a single concave through the center transitioning to a double concave between the fins balances the board, giving both speed and drive. In the barrel, sometimes you need to accelerate, sometimes to stall - control and speed must always be at your fingertips.
Another key feature of the Tunel Crew is its lower rails compared to other RM designs. Low rails are essential for carving the wall and feeling locked in, acting almost like a pivot. In barreling conditions, it's not just the fins holding you - the rail bites and projects as well.
Finally, Ricardo added two channels near the tail to enhance control and direction at high speed. The round and round pin tails are the go-to for these conditions.
We recommend riding it 1/4 inch narrower and 1/8 inch thicker than your daily board. It's a perfect quiver addition, especially for travel, performing exceptionally in fast, heavy waves (not just barrels). Tested and approved in Portugal, France, Mexico, and highly sought-after in Indonesia lineups.
